Today I got locked out of my rental car and it got me thinking about gratitude and how no matter how horrible of a situation you are in, things can always be worse. After the roadside assistance agent failed to get me my keys (which I had forgot in the trunk), my only other was to tow the car the next morning to the Toyota dealership and have them make me a new key. While this would have have been expensive and time consuming, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for a couple of reasons:

  • It happened in my home city, where I have a place to stay 10 minutes away from where I was
  • The car was parked in a free parking zone in a safe area, which meant I didn’t have to tow it right away and incur extra cost
  • The forecast said it was raining today, but luckily it didn’t
  • I learnt what to do and who to call the next time something like this happens
  • I have an interesting story to tell

Luckily the second locksmith I called was able to get my keys back and save a lot of time. Always look on the bright side and be grateful.
